Title: Adele
Media: Pencil and Paper
My inspiration for this piece was Adele. Personally, I like her music and when I was looking at the reference pictures we were presented, the first one I saw was the picture of her. As I was glancing at all of the other pictures, I knew I had to do the picture of Adele. So, I grabbed the picture and went back to my seat so that I could start working.
To create my piece, I used pencil and paper. I started out by sketching a 4x3 grid on my paper and my reference. Then I carefully mapped out my piece. I shaded it and then blended it by using my finger. I used the eraser off of a mechanical pencil to highlight flyaway strands of hair, and then used the lead from the mechanical pencil to highlight darker strands of hair.
Title: Fall Tree
Media: Watercolor
Fall and Summer are my two favorite seasons. At the beginning of Fall, I like to watch the color of the leaves change. That was the inspiration for my piece. My piece is of a large fall tree, with a much smaller one in the background. The leaves on both trees are a variety of colors, including: red, orange, and yellow.
I created my piece using watercolor. Watercolor isn’t an easy media. It’s very frustrating, but if you’re patient and take your time, you’ll see results. It takes layers upon layers upon layers to get the intended effect. I used the wet-on-wet technique, along with a flat brush, to create my wash. I used the wet-on-dry technique for mostly everything else. To add details, I used a small, round brush and to create leaves I used a bigger round brush.
Title: Sky High
Media: Tempera on Canvas
This painting is of a giraffe being carried into the clouds by balloons. The style of painting I was depicting was surrealism. The goal of surrealism is “to resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality.” I took two things that are real, a giraffe and the sky, and put them together in an unrealistic way.
This piece was made by using tempera paint on a canvas. First, I mapped out my piece very carefully. Then I mixed my colors to get the right shades I needed. I started covering the canvas and filling space. I learned quickly I was going to have to use lots of layers. The more layers you use, the better your piece will look.
Title: Jeep Jeep

Title: E's & P's

Media: Paper and Colored Pencil
This piece is a reflection of my jeep in the back window of my mama’s car. I love my jeep, and I had this cool idea of how to incorporate it into a reflection. So we took the picture, and I edited it as necessary (cropping, making it black and white).
Black paper and white colored pencil all are you need. I took a regular pencil and mapped out my piece, making sure to note the areas that were going to stay completely black. Then I started to color in the areas that were going to be completely white, and worked from lightest (completely white), to darkest (barely any white to black).
My city was done in 2-point perspective. It contains a Nike outlet, an Adidas outlet, a food-court style building, and seven other buildings that can be whatever your imagination would like. My city has a sidewalk, and spaces for parallel parking. I’m an athlete, so it seemed fitting to include sports outlets.
My city was made using paper, a pencil, and a ruler. We started out by placing the two viewpoints, point one and point two. Then you take your ruler and make a kite. As you draw in your buildings, every horizontal line on side one must go to viewpoint one, and the same rule applies for side two.
I’m in beginning art. So, the purpose of this piece was to help us aspiring artists to learn the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. The Elements include: form, color, shape, value, texture, space, and line. The Principles include: balance, unity, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, movement, and pattern.
I used paper, pencil, and colored pencils to make my piece. First, I found what outline I was going to use. I needed the outline so I could use it to demonstrate the Elements and Principles. As soon as I found my outline, I drew it and cut it out. I traced it onto the big sheet of paper and from there, I began to make examples of the Elements and Principles.
Title: Under The Sea
Media: Clay
My tiki sculpture was based on the hawaiian god Kanaloa. Kanaloa is the god of the sea, and he’s known for his squid-like dreadlocks. Being the god of the sea, it only makes sense to incorporate aspects of the sea into the sculpture. So, I cut his eyes out big to look like fish eyes, and added little things like starfish and seashells. Of course, to make the god easily identifiable, I put in his squid-like dreads.
To make my tiki, we started out with a slab of clay, a paper towel roll, and a piece of paper. Once we made a tube shape with the clay, we cut off the excess. Then we started working on big pieces that needed to be cut out, and things we needed to stick onto our tiki’s. Then once we were nearly done, we added all of our smaller details.
